5th and 6th grade students had the opportunity to visit the bird banding station at Wildcat Hills this fall. I have been bringing students to the Wildcat Hills bird banding station for many years. It is a field trip they really enjoy and younger students look forward to. It is a great opportunity for students to see the birds in our area up close and learn about migration patterns. At the station we learn about the nets they use to catch the birds, the data they collect on each bird, why they collect the data and how it is used. We also get to go on a guided hike through the Wildcat Hills and learn about the nature in the area. We have always been provided great resources to use with the students before going on the field trip and the hands-on follow up experience is very impactful. This field trip is offered by the
Bird Conservancy of the Rockies
and has always been free of charge.
